This is the traditional land of the Maasai people, nomadic herders who choose a traditional lifestyle and who are permitted to graze their cattle in the area. A proud and largely aloof tribe who have held on to their customs and traditions for hundreds of years. The park's habitats include the forests along the banks of the Mara and Talek Rivers, acacia forests and open savannah.

Morning drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru is one of the alkaline Rift Valley lakes and a fantastic bird sanctuary, its shores populated at times by more than one million flamingoes. The famous ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson defined it as "the greatest bird spectacle on earth". The fortunate sentence has now become a cliché and is used up to fed-up-ism for promotional purposes.
This is the second most accessible park, since Nakuru is the fourth city in the country and the head town of the Rift Valley. |
1300hrs: |
Lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge. |
1530hrs: |
Afternoon game viewing drive in the park. This is Kenya's first rhino sanctuary. The Rothschild giraffes have also been rehabilitated here at a time that they were endangered. You are almost certain to see the most elusive of the cats family, the leopard.
